Heather Casella, resident of Champlin, Minnesota, founded KindredHearts with the dream of helping families find quality literature and to create special memories around reading. Heather has been an English teacher for ten years and has always had a passion for reading good books.
When Heather was in fifth grade, her mother came into the living room to find Heather and her sister planted in front of the TV—a regular activity at their home. Heather’s mom was so upset this particular day that she promptly picked up the TV, carried it out the back door and threw it into the trash. Thus began a lifetime of experiencing the amazing journey of reading for Heather.
The name KindredHearts is inspired by the time honored classic, Anne of Green Gables. Anne repeatedly refers to her good friends as “kindred spirits.” KindredHearts readers often share a special connection because they have been on literature journeys together.
KindredHearts specializes in literature that has strong characters, clear authority figures, family values and plots that entice readers to keep on reading. All KindredHearts book selections are considered excellent quality literature.
Along with great book selections, KindredHearts focuses on helping families connect through literature. Reading Aloud is the most important activity parents can do to help their kids become readers. The KindredHearts selections for kids are all great read aloud books.
There was once a time when people spent hours by their fireside reading and discussing books and poems. Now, studies show, families spend a majority of their free time in front of the screen. KindredHearts’ vision is to recreate a culture of reading as once existed before television and video games by helping families find books they will love.
